thespiritualjourney

You can experience the nine-month Theodyssey journey in a number of ways, depending upon your schedule, location, and preference. Daily journaling is always a requirement, and will help you to get the most of your Theodyssey.

Theodyssey is not “just another Bible study.”

It is an intense process of spiritual formation, which begins with a season of discovering and deconstructing distorted beliefs.

The process requires self-knowledge and honesty with God, self and others. While there is no step-by-step formula to Theodyssey, there is a recommended progression and process.

Expectations
Each year we provide several Theodyssey Open Houses, where you can meet new friends, preview the spiritual formation process, understand the expectations, and get your questions answered.
You can certainly use the curriculum for yourself or start a group. We will be glad to help you with any input you want regarding group structure and process.

In a group led by one of our trained leaders, we have specific expectations:
  • Journaling, using a specific format we will instruct you in, every day, 10-15 minutes, for nine months.
  • 3-5 hours per week for group time, readings, and interactive discussion materials.
  • Thorough completion of all readings and interactive work before each session.
  • Attitude of a “Franchise Owner”— to own the process we are involved in, which is evidenced by your active participation.

Is this a good fit or the right time for me?
These groups would not be appropriate for you if:

  • You’re not sure you can fit it in with everything else you have committed to. You will need to eliminate things in your schedule to make time to benefit from the process of this experience.
  • You have just entered into a recovery process. You need a very well established emotional foundation to be prepared for this process.
  • You are looking for another Bible study.
  • You are content where you are in life. The pre-requisite is a deep desire to have an authentic relationship with God, self, and others.
  • You object to the basic theology of the historic Christian faith (e.g. the deity of Christ, the inspiration of Scripture, sin, salvation, etc.) or our approach to spiritual formation (whole person, process-oriented, incorporates historic Christian wisdom, considers principles of personality development, etc.)
  • You cannot attend every session. Only exceptions would be illness or emergencies.
  • You just want to passively watch and learn.

If you have any questions about whether or not this is a good fit for you, don’t hesitate to contact David Smith This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it , or one of our other leaders.

Start Your Own

Do you want to start your own group? Great idea! We will help coach you and do all we can to make that a fruitful and fulfilling experience. Feel free to use our curriculum for a church group, or a group of friends or neighbors. Self-Directed Theodyssey

The term "self-directed" does not mean you are alone on your journey. This method allows for you to participate in Theodyssey if there are no groups available for you to join, or if your schedule doesn't allow for regular group attendance. The Theodyssey forums are available for questions, connect with seasoned leaders, and share your experiences with others. It's a virtual community, available only to registered site users, and is free to join.

To begin a self-directed journey, purchase the curriculum, register for the Self-Directed Forum, and you’re ready go.
